Policy Aims and Objectives
Our primary objective is to prevent injury, ill health and damage to property or the environment arising from our gardening activities. We aim to identify hazards in advance, control risks at source and foster a culture in which everyone takes responsibility for safe working. We comply with applicable health and safety legislation and recognised industry guidance relevant to gardening and grounds maintenance work.
Management Responsibilities
Management at Gardeners Greenwich has overall responsibility for implementing and reviewing this policy. Managers ensure that safe systems of work are developed, risk assessments are carried out, and adequate resources are allocated for training, supervision, tools, equipment and personal protective equipment. They are responsible for communicating health and safety requirements clearly to all staff and for monitoring performance through inspections and feedback.
Employee Responsibilities
All gardeners and support staff must take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions. Employees must follow all safety procedures, use equipment correctly, wear appropriate personal protective equipment and promptly report hazards, incidents, near misses or defective equipment. No employee is expected to work in conditions that they believe to be unsafe, and any such concerns must be raised with a supervisor without delay.
